Near the end we come......

I can hardly believe the end of June is upon me and I have not a single post in, and for that I apologize.  This June was fulled with amazing family photos shoots, some late senior shoots, my daugther's own graduation from high school and an amazing fun Special Olympics Fund Raiser opportunity, where I was harnessed 23 stories in the air.............. wow what a great day!

As July approaches, watch for summer specials and amazing vacation photos on my website!
In the mean time check out the Spokane Raceway Junior Drag photos in the Sports Catagory

May Showers.............

............Bring people into the studio for indoor portraits!

Even with a temporary studio setting, it has not stopped a few last minute seniors and incredibly fun families from making appointments and coming in for portraits.

While I am so excited to start laying the foundation for the new studio, I am thankful for the roof I have over my head now.

Check out the sneak peeks page and watch the website for some fun new pictures from Cinnamon, Emerald, Nate and Sarah.

Thank you all for coming in, spending time with me and allowing me to capture this time in your life!

Just Stopping by......

I am always happy to have family and friends stop by for a quick "hi" and mini shoot.  Sometimes these impromptu shoots can produce some of the most fun and natural poses and sessions that create fun and lasting memories.

Check out my sneak peeks page for some of my latest "just stopping by' sessions.

Then stop by and let me take some lasting memories for you!

Prop the Insanity!

Just as collecting baseball cards or ceramic knick knacks is to some... props are a special sort of addiction to me (and most photographers I know). While few garage sales, antique stores or CraigsList ads go unnoticed, my favorite 'shop' is always my friends garages and closets.  I am blessed to have wonderful friends and family who love to spring clean on a regular basis and add to my ever growing collection of 'studio stuff."

While I don't buy everything I see and I am selective about some items, I do love to have a wide variety of fun, unique and interesting props for my portraits.
More importantly, I love it when my clients bring their own props and show off who they are! Many of my clients bring with them items that show off who they are and what makes them unique! This is a great way for them to remember special things or moments that happened during their life.

No items is too big, too small or to hairy!!

Check out my other props under the studio tab on my blog!!Studio and Props

“No good idea ever entered the mind through an open mouth.” ~ Barry Posner

One of my recent blog finds "Wise at Work" has provided me with very valuable work place insights in the last week as I struggle to 'find my personal place, space and meaning" at my current job. A job I enjoy very much and have gained an immense amount of  personal growth as well as professional growth from during the short time I have been with this company.  I have traveled the US, met wonderful people, learned to 'speak my truth' (more on that in another post) and learned what discrimination feels like first hand, and many other 'firsts' and wonderful experiences I would have not had the opportunity to experience if not for this job. But the job is changing....... and with it, so must I.

So Barry's quote summed things up for me as I prepare to make a decision that will affect my career and possibly many other things related to this position, but one that I know is right for me.

Thank you Barry for allowing me to open my mind and shut my mouth long enough to 'learn their truth' and for me to make an educated decision about my future.

"Learn the basics and break the rules"

As I continue to grow and evolve as a photographer, one of my many joys is taking as many classes as my life and time allow.  Tonight's class was about the basics of studio lighting and narrated by a well known photographer I truly admire. One of his sayings tonight that I connected with was "learn the basics and break the rules." While he was talking about lighting rules and studio light set ups, this really hit home as I struggled with my lighting this last weekend after finding out the previous day that my studio had been broken into and my expensive studio soft-box lights were stolen. I was ready to break ........... something, but not the basic rules of life.

I thank my dear friends and mentors Heather Slater of Heather Slater's Photography in Dixon, KY, and Shelley Potter from Shell's Photography Studio in Fairbanks, AK as well as  many, many others.......... for walking me through my sadness and helping me to come up with a solution that would make most photographers shutter with horror but allowed me to keep my appointment and shoot some beautiful newborn images. (See Eli's pictures under sneak peeks)

While 'learning the basics" is something we are taught as children (such as: please, thank you and may I), learning how to properly "break the rules" is something that is not usually taught.  So when I talk about breaking the rules here, I am not talking about hurting people, telling lies about them, stealing from them, or getting revenge or getting even.  I am talking about how to take what life just threw at me and creating an opportunity for myself, but never at someone expense.

Just as I am "learning the basics" of lighting from mentors and extremely talented photography teachers, I am also learning how to  "break the rules" properly.

What basics in your life can you productively break the rules with this week and come out on the other side with your head held high and feel great about what you have accomplished?  I would love to hear from you!

HTTP vs. HTTPS - Your security is important!

Important Security Information

"http" & "https" - Do YOU Know The Difference ?
Once in a while, there is something that comes down the pike that is of real importance.

What is the difference between http and https ?
Don't know how many of you are aware of this difference, but it is worth sending to any that do not.....

**The main difference between http:/// and https://
is it's all about keeping you secure** HTTP stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol

The S (big surprise) stands for "Secure".. If you visit a website or web page, and look at the address in the web browser, it will likely begin with the following: http://.
This means that the website is talking to your browser using the regular 'unsecured language. In other words, it is possible for someone to "eavesdrop" on your computer's conversation with the website. If you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to that site.

This is why you never ever enter your credit card number in an http website! But if the web address begins with https://, that basically means your computer is talking to the website in a secure code that no one can eavesdrop on.

You understand why this is so important, right?

If a website ever asks you to enter your credit card
information, you should automatically look to see if the web address begins with https://.

If it doesn't, You should NEVER enter sensitive information....such as a credit card number, SS # etc.

PASS IT ON (You may save someone a lot of! grief).
